Choosing a Blog Category / Theme

May 3rd, 2008 |  Published in Blogging Guide by Publix

The underlying, and essential purpose of a blog is to ensure that the world notices you or what you have to say or offer. Even if you don’t desire the world to notice, you are definitely aiming at some category of people who may be like minded. Therefore, you need to choose a category that fits in well with the content of your blog.

Your blog can have anything from series of your own personal accounts in your life, college, high school or at your work place, or an entirely virtual sphere. In such a case, the category will be “personal”. This category helps in directing the intended traffic to your blog. Intended traffic means the people for whom you have consciously or sub-consciously blogging.

If you are an ardent photographer and you would like to share your pictures with anyone in the world, or make a forum of people who share the same passion as you do, then in that case, your category will be “Photography” or “Traveling”. Sometimes, there can be some sub-categories in your blog. It is important to understand that while a suitable and relevant category helps in making people know about your blog, a sub category helps in the internal navigation of the blog. In other words, a sub category also helps in tagging your posts over the blog.

Almost everyone has a website these days and this is not just the professional crowd, this also includes people who just want to kill time and therefore they venture into the realm of virtual world. Therefore, a category serves as a guiding feature for the people all over the blog who will eventually be lead over to your blog. The category that you chose must be in sync with your blog’s content. A right category will ensure a dedicated traffic.
